What are uplights, and do I need them?
This is a question that I get often from my clients. Uplights are lights that are on the ground that shoots up walls and make them glow. Also, they can be used on trees if your venue has an outside part, which makes for an awesome effect. Usually, lighting or uplights can come with DJ services as an extra. When ordered with DJ services it comes with 8 to 16 lights, and if they are wireless, they can be used anywhere. Additionally, most uplighting is color adjustable and can match the color theme of your wedding. The most popular color is a plush or pink color, but I have seen plenty of other colors.
Now to the question if this is necessary for your wedding. Some wedding venues come with string lighting, which are large bulbs strung across the ceilings or outside. This is not uplighting, two totally different things. So remember whichever venue you reserve for your wedding, ask if they have uplighting, or if the DJ’s usually bring that for the weddings they host there.
If the answer is no, then you seriously want to consider lighting. Imagine if you went to a fun dance club, and there was no lighting inside? It would be a pretty disappointing sight because lighting encourages people to get out on the dance floor. Lighting goes with audio/sound like peanut butter and jelly. Hence why most DJ companies have lighting services offered with their packages. Also, uplighting makes for wonderful photo opportunities for your first dance with your significant other, making the walls come alive.
For pricing, I’ve seen this price be anywhere from $200-$400 for a set of 8 uplights for your wedding. If you are adding extra uplights to a set than each light can be $25-$50 extra per light.
